John E. Hagerty, 90 of Mansfield died on Friday April 7, 2006 at the Charlwell House in Norwood, MA. He was the beloved husband of Erdine “Phyllis” (Josselyn) Haggerty to whom he was married to on June 4, 1941.
Born in Boston, MA on August 30, 1915 he was a loving son of the late Joseph P. & Pearl (Mugford) Hagerty.
Educated in Boston he was a graduate of the Boston Trade School. He served in the United States Army during WWII as a Drill Instructor and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
He worked as an Inspector at The Foxboro Co. in Foxboro for 25 years before retiring. He had formerly worked at the former S.W. Card Co. in Mansfield for 18 years.
He served as a Sexton at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Mansfield for over 30 years. He was a former member of The Mansfield Lodge of Odd Fellows. John enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved his dogs and his work. He had made his home in Mansfield for the past 74 years.
In addition to his beloved wife of 64 years, he is survived by his devoted children – John E. Hagerty, Jr. of Attleboro, Diane E. Vicino and her husband Francis. C. Vicino of Wareham and Joyce E. Hammond and her husband Robert Hammond of Port Charlotte, Florida. His dear brother Joseph Hagerty and his wife Margaret Hagerty of Mansfield. Also, survived by his loving 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday April 11th at 11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow in The Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday April 10th from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers John’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to The Mansfield Animal Shelter 175 Fruit St. Mansfield, MA 02048.
