Elliott M. Steinman of Newton a WW II U.S. Navy veteran and Purple Heart Recipient and Pearl Harbor survivor, died Thurs Apr 6, 2006 at Epoch Senior Healthcare of Weston. He was 92.
Born in Brockton he received his BA in economics from the Univ. of Southern California in 1937. In 1940 he volunteered for the Naval Officers Program and was assigned to the Pacific Fleet after Mid Shipman’s School in 1941. He also attended aviation school for pilot training and commanded 3 overseas airbases in South America. He completed his active duty in 1967 and worked as sales director for a chemical co. until retiring in 1979.
He was a member of the TROA (The Retired Offices Assoc.) the DAV and The Ward Room Club.
Husband of the late Margaret (MacKay) Steinman he is survived by his daughters Martha Newall on Albuquerque NM and Jean Steinman of Newton, his grandchildren Keith Farnham, Karen Farnham, Michael Newall and Robert Newall, and his great grand daughter Shakara Quapaw. He was the brother of the late Francis Simkin.
The family will receive friends at the Eaton & Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Fri from 5-8 PM. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Tues. Apr 11, 2006 at 11:15 AM at the Mass National Cemetery in Bourne.
