Ann E. (Markey) Peternel Barlow, 83, of New Bedford died Thursday, August 19, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Raymond F. Barlow.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Stephen and Elizabeth (Allen) Markey, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Ann was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
She was a graduate of St. Joseph school of nursing and was formerly employed as a registered nurse for many years until her retirement.
Ann enjoyed shopping, baking, watching the Red Sox and spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary Leary and her husband Michael and Elizabeth Bottomley and her husband John; her daughter-in-law, Suzie Peternel; eight grandchildren, B.J. Peternel, Jodi Peternel, Meaghan Picard, Ryan Leary, Brendan Leary, Alyshia Bottomley, Michael Bottomley, Stephen Bottomley, and Colby Martin; three sisters, Elizabeth Shaughnessy, Ellen Kelly, and Mary Longo; her brother, Jack Markey; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Robert J. Peternel and her siblings, Stephen Markey, Winnie Winslow, and Alice Callaghan.
Her Funeral will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 11 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, August 22nd from 4-7 PM.
