Horton, Richard Sidney “Dick” of Medfield, MA died on August 14, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Norwood on August 12, 1932, to Lillian (Munn) Horton and Howard D. Horton. Dick survived polio, graduated from Norwood High School and served in the Army from 1953-1954 during the Korean War. He married the first love of his life Margaret “Peggy” Lydon in 1957. As a friend of Bill W beginning in 1969, he enjoyed and celebrated a life of 52 years of sobriety. Upon Peggy’s death in 1989, he was lucky enough to find the second love of his life, Susan Dahl. Together, he and Susan shared their love of the outdoors and animals. They spent endless hours hunting and training their many prize winning Vizlas.
Dick is survived by his son, Rick and his wife Ellen (O’Brien) of Millis and his daughter Gayle and her husband Bob Allen of Portland, Maine. He leaves behind his grandchildren: Sean and Elizabeth (Murray), Doug and Kelly (Casey) and Danielle and Mike Ferraro as well as 7 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. Nothing gave him more pleasure in recent years than sitting and watching his great-grandkids run around playing.
A celebration of his life will take place on August 27, 2021 at 10:30 AM at Highland Cemetery located at 320 Winter Street in Norwood, MA. Please meet at the front gate at 10:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Dick’s memory.
