Obituary

David John Kleis, age 83 of Prosser, entered into rest on July 29, 2021 at Richland Rehabilitation Center. He was born on June 27, 1938 to John William and Edith Marie (Thompson) Kleis in Stillwater, Minnesota. He was raised and educated in Lake Elmo, Minnesota where he grew up on a farm with his younger sister, Mary Jean. He graduated from high school in 1956. David and Donna Norrish were married in Rock Falls, Wisconsin on May 28, 1966 and the couple continued to make their home in Lake Elmo until settling in Prosser in 1973.
David was a farmer until 1973 and then was a custodian at the Benton County Courthouse for over 40 years. He enjoyed reading and watching old westerns, car races, football and wrestling and also watching his Granddaughters sporting events. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Prosser.
David is survived by his wife Donna of Prosser; sons, David Robert of Kennewick and Douglas John of Benton City; daughters, Deborah Edith (Mike) of Benton City and Dawn Marie (Jordan) of Richland. He is also survived by his the granddaughters, who were his pride and joy, Aletha Kleis of St. Petersburg, Florida and twins, Kaitlin and Kourtney Hatley of Benton City; his niece, Becky Lopez of Gig Harbor, Washington; and brother-in-law Lyle Slawson of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Jean Slawson
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Prosser Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at the Prosser Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Central WA Ag Museum in Union- Gap, WA, The Messiah Lutheran Church and The William O Douglas Honors Collage at CWU.
