Obituary

Alexander "Allie" D. DiCamillo, 95, of Hopedale, and a former resident of Franklin, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 8, at Blaire House Assisted Living following an illness.

Born on Oct. 19, 1925, Allie was the oldest child of the late Domenic and Irene (D’Angelo) DiCamillo. Allie was born and raised in Franklin and was a graduate of Franklin High School.

Shortly after graduation from high school, Allie entered the U.S. Navy and served in World War II aboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin. He was recently honored for his military service by the Honor Flight Network in Washington, D.C., and at a Worcester Red Sox home game at Polar Park.

After the war, Allie continued his work as a machinist. He had a post-retirement job as a courier for a local travel service where he amassed a wide and lasting network of friends.

He loved to travel, dance, and play the guitar. He had his pilot’s license.

He treasured good food and drink, and was well-respected for his eggplant parmesan.

Allie made friends wherever he went: whether it was during golf, playing pitch, or even cardiac rehab. He had an infectious smile and laugh and was loved by all who crossed his path.

He was predeceased by his brother Michael and his sister Anna, and was the husband of the late Nancy (Cutter) DiCamillo, who passed away in 1999.

Allie is survived by his former wife, Nanella (Grassi) DiCamillo, and his two daughters, Sandra and her husband Alan Green of Milford and Kathleen and her husband Edward Turieo of Franklin. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Melanie Turieo and her husband K.C. Marshall of Franklin; Kevin Fitzpatrick and his wife Anne Holoway of Somerville; Danny Fitzpatrick and his wife Melissa of Greenbrae, Calif.; and Christopher Turieo of Franklin.
