Obituary

Limerick - Sergeant Edward C. Gaspar, 4th Battalion, 54th Infantry with the 64th Airborne of the United States Army, passed peacefully on 27 July 2021 in Scarborough, Maine. Born to Clayton and Dorothy Gaspar on 01 November 1942 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Edward began his service in December 1959 and was honorably discharged due to injury in 1971 from Fort Lewis, Washington State. Edward was mentored early in life by his father in automotive mechanics and found his life’s post-service passion, continuing on to become certified in numerous applications to begin his successful automotive business Gaspar’s Automotive. A lifelong fan of NASCAR and a local racing circuit driver, Ed mentored his employees, other drivers, and nephews from his education and experience in mechanics and full interior/exterior automotive restoration. An expert in both, his greatest joy was the completion of a ’57 Chevy 2 door hardtop and a ’70 GTO.

Ed’s love for, and commitment to, his family was deep, and he was always at the ready to be of assistance in anything life handed us. When he was in need, it was us that could reciprocate that same love and service to him. “These three things will last forever: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13

Edward is survived by his daughter, Dr. Stephanie I. Gaspar of Limerick, Maine and Bainbridge Island, Washington; Nephew Robert (Rick) Richardson, who was his primary caregiver in his last year of life and closer than a son; Rick's daughter Katie and her son Benjamin of Limerick; Nephews Dennis Leveille and Herbert Fuller of Derry, New Hampshire; Warren (Butch) Eaton, Jr. of Puyallup, Washington; his sister Joanne; lifelong friend and brother Rudy Cole, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends that lovingly called him “Uncle Eddy”. Ed was predeceased by nephew Robert (Ricky) Richardson III, his parents, his brother Ralph, and his sisters, Nancy, Donna, and Linda.

A celebration of his life will on Saturday, August 7, at the Poitras, Neal and York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish. United States Army Military Honors will be promptly at 1 p.m., followed by visiting hours until 3 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.mainefuneral.com
