Salem
Clement E. Desjardins, 93 of Salem, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side in his home on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Denise J. (Auger) Desjardins with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Auguste and Athella (Richard) Desjardins. Shortly after he graduated from High School, Clem joined the Army and served as a paratrooper in Japan during the closing years of World War II. Following his tour of duty he returned to Salem and shortly after married Denise. He joined the Auger Insurance Agency where he remained until 1975 when he founded the Clement E. Desjardins Agency. Clem retired from the company in 2001.
Clem was active in several organizations over the years. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the former St. Joseph Credit Union, member of the Salem Richelieu Club and a supporter of the St. John’ Prep Parent Association. Clem was also an avid wood carver for over 60 years . Most of all, Clem was devoted to his wife and family and his large extended family.
He is survived by his dear and devoted friend, Joan Buttler of Peabody, his son Peter J. Desjardins and wife Nancy of Reading, his daughters, Diane D. Kotkowski of Braintree, Joanne M. Powers and husband Clifford of Marblehead, Andrea J. Compton and husband Wayne of Salem, Cheryl A. Di Pirro and husband David of Peabody, brother, Auguste “Gus” Desjardins and wife Dorothy of Indiantown, FL, brother-in-law, Norman R. Auger and wife Dorothy of East Bloomfield, NY. He also leaves his grandchildren, Caitlin Carotenuto and husband Michael of Marblehead, Mallory Green and husband Geoff of Brookline, Thomas Powers of Epping, NH, Jamie Pratt and husband Steve of Braintree, Olivia, Emily & Hallie Di Pirro of Peabody, and 3 great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Charlotte Pratt & Jack Carotenuto, as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Paul C. Desjardins, his sister, Cecile McCarran and brothers, Francis, Richard, Conrad and Dr. Rene Desjardins.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 30, 2021 in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 11:00 AM. Visiting hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [ Route 114 / 1-A ] Salem on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem. His family has requested that those not vaccinated please wear protective face coverings. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a memorial contribution to the Paul C.
