Inez Batten Purvis, 101, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, July 26, 2021, at Life Care Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 3 PM, Thursday, July 29, 2021, at North Prong Cemetery in Baker County, Florida with Elder David Crawford officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Purvis was born September 20, 1919, in Baker County, Florida, to the late James “Jim” & Martha Johns Batten. She was a sales clerk for May Cohen’s in Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. Purvis enjoyed flowers, gardening and cooking. She will be remembered for her fried chicken. Mrs. Purvis was a member of Oak Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Macclenny, Florida.
She is survived by her son, Virgil & Sandra Purvis of Fitzgerald; a daughter, Joyce P. & Samuel King of Fitzgerald; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Purvis of Douglas and five special nieces. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Purvis; a son, James Vernon Purvis; a granddaughter, Charlotte Purvis Davis; two brothers and four sisters.
