Obituary

TEWKSBURY Leonard A. “Len” Smith, age 84, of Tewksbury, MA, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Palm Skilled Nursing Center in Chelmsford, MA. He was the husband of Judith M. (Scott) Smith, with whom he would have celebrated his 54th wedding anniversary this November.

Leonard was born in Swea City, Iowa on January 4, 1937 and was a son of the late, Stewart Smith and the late, Esther (Sundstrom) Smith. He grew up, and was educated in Welcome, Minnesota. He attended the local schools, and then enlisted with the United States Army. He was stationed in France. Upon returning home he furthered his education at the University of Minnesota, obtaining his bachelor's degree in engineering.

He began his career working in San Diego, California for a short time before relocating to Massachusetts. Here he met his wife, and they settled in Tewksbury to start their family. His wife, three children, and his grandchildren and great grandchildren were always what was most important to him. He was employed by Avco/Textron in Wilmington, MA for over 40 years and continued working as a consultant after his retirement.

He is survived by his children, Joseph Smith and his wife Karen of Tewksbury, Lori Bergquist Darling and her husband Daniel Darling of Royalston, Sara Corbin and her husband Michael Corbin of Marlborough. Eight Grandchildren, Cameron Smith, and Patrick Smith of Tewksbury, Ashley Johnson and her husband Kenny of Leominster, Alyssa Bergquist and her partner, Zachary Stange of Hinsdale, NH., Allison Bergquist of Manchester, CT, Ryan Darling of Royalston, Katherine Corbin and Erik Corbin both of Marlborough. Two Great Grandchildren Amelia Johnson And Zoey Johnson of Leominister, MA. He is also survived by sister-in-law Elizabeth Smith and his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by Four Siblings, Lawrence P. Smith, Maurice Smith, Laura Mae Smith and Norma Smith; and his Son-in-law Paul W. Bergquist.
