Obituary

New Bedford – Joseph Hinchliffe, age 79, of New Bedford, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a courageous battle with COPD. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Cardoza) Hinchliffe.

Joseph was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to the late Milton Hinchliffe and Helen (Patla) Hinchliffe. He had served in the United States Navy and later went on to work as a detective and a sergeant for the New Bedford Police Department for 32 years. He was a member of the Washington Club and was past President of the S.E.Y.A.A.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; 3 children, Kelly Hinchliffe Wilkinson, David Hinchliffe and his wife Maggie and Jason Hinchliffe and his wife Carolyn; 5 grandchildren, Johnny, Tricia, Kasey, Nolan and Andrew; 3 great-grandchildren, Maeve, Ava and Melody. He is also survived by his brother, William Hinchliffe and his wife Janice; sister-in-law, Carol Hinchliffe; brother-in-law, Bill Barriteau; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his late brother, Milton Hinchliffe and his late sister, Jane Hinchliffe Barriteau.

Joseph’s visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday, beginning at 11:00 A.M. with a service at noon. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
