In East Taunton, John Lopes Jr., Age 88, passed away on July 22, 2021 following a lengthy illness while surrounded by his loving family. John was the husband of the late Maria (Gonsalves) Lopes. He was born in Taunton, the son of the late John Lopes Sr. & Mary (Mota) Lopes.
John had resided all his life in Taunton. He was educated in Taunton schools and served his country honorably during the Korean War while in the U.S. Air Force. John was employed at Reed & Barton in Taunton until his retirement and later found great joy in being a crossing guard for the City of Taunton. He enjoyed camping at Shawme Crowell in Sandwich, fishing, going to yard sales and being with his family.
John is survived by his beloved son Richard John Lopes and his wife Sharon of East Taunton, his grandson, Tanner R. Lopes of Taunton and Nichole and Jessica Soares of Taunton. He also leaves his siblings; Ronald Lopes and wife Yau of Raynham, Donna Bell and husband Steve of Las Vegas and the late Jeannette Barboza, Robert Lopes and his wife Joanne of Taunton.
Funeral home visiting hours will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Wednesday, July 28th from 10-11:30am. A funeral home service will be held at 11:30am. Burial will be at Bourne National Cemetery in Bourne, MA at 1:30am. In lieu of flowers donations in John's memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans Chapter 57 of Taunton, 5-7 Taunton Green, Taunton, MA, 02780.
