Ruth L. Smith, 95, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, July 22, 2021, at her son’s residence.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Saturday, July 24, 2021, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Greg Pope and the Rev. Blane Jacobs officiating. Byron Smith will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith was born November 17, 1925, in Brooks County, Georgia, to the late Oscar Lamar “Brock” & Grace Williams Lancaster. She worked as a lab technician for the Macon Hospital and the Ben Hill County Hospital. Mrs. Smith enjoyed gardening and needle point. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald.
She is survived by her children: William D. “Billy” Smith, III of Fitzgerald, Nedra & Steve Dickerson of Rabun Gap and Byron & Wanda Smith of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Leah Dickerson Puckett & Billy, Amanda Dickerson Harrison & Ryan, Joey Dickerson, Stuart Smith & Callie, Barton Smith & Erica and Carly Smith Harper & T.J.; great-grandchildren: Alayna Beckett, Lahayla Harrison, Eden Harrison, Garrett Smith, Grayson Harper and Gibson Harper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Dewey Smith, Jr.; a sister, Margaret Carney and a brother, Kenneth Lancaster.
