Obituary

COCHITUATE: Janet M. (Byrne) Gladu, 89, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, July 19, 2021 at Sudbury Pines Extended Care Facility following a period of declining health.
She was born in Natick on November 20, 1931 the daughter of the late John F. Byrne and Emma B. (Cavanaugh) Byrne.
She was the beloved wife of the late Retired Deputy Fire Chief of Wayland, Richard A. Gladu who died on January 8, 2011.
Janet was the loving mother of Richard A. Gladu, Jr and his wife Isabelle of Dennis; Pamela Lanning of Wells, ME; Cecelia Gary and her husband J. Mark of Kennebunk, ME; Kathleen Ney and her husband Russ of Marlborough; Lauren Nanos and her husband Harry of Ashland and Linda Madsen and her husband David of Arlington. Also survived by 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren with another one on the way as well as several nieces and nephews. Janet was the sister of the late Marjorie Roman, John Byrne, Robert Byrne, Donald Byrne and Patricia Mahoney.
Janet has been a longtime resident of Cochituate and spent her earlier years in Natick where she graduated from Natick High School.
She was an active communicant of Saint Zepherin Church and was a member of the church choir. Janet enjoyed reading, loved sewing and was an accomplished seamstress. She spent time designing and sewing clothes for her children. She also loved to spend time shopping.
Janet loved to be with her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she always shared a smile with everyone she met.

A Memorial Mass celebrating her life will be held on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 11:00 am at Good Shepherd Parish at ST. ZEPHERIN CHURCH, 99 Main St (Rte. 27), Cochituate.
At the request of her family, there will be no funeral home visitations and a private burial will take place in the Gladu family lot on Lakeview Cemetery in Cochituate.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that memorial gifts in Janet’s memory may be sent to Sudbury Pines Extended Care Facility, ATTN: Hospice, 642 Boston Post Road, Sudbury, MA 01776. The family also wished to thank the entire staff at Sudbury Pines for the care and compassion that was shown to their mother and the Gladu family.
