Bridgewater- Joseph F. Carpender, 54, of Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at his home. He was the husband of Cynthia (Clinton) Carpender of Brockton.
Born Nov. 10, 1951, in Brockton, he was the son of Joseph Carpender of Bridgewater and the late Mary (Millay) Carpender.
Raised and educated in Brockton, Mr. Carpender attended Brockton High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, from which he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Mr. Carpender was a driver for the VA Hospital in Brockton and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He had been a resident of Bridgewater for the past five years, coming from Brockton.
Mr. Carpender was a sports fan and enjoyed fishing, bowling, reading and playing sports.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by his two daughters, Heather-Ann Carpender-Sousa of Brockton and Lisa Carpender of Stoughton; his son, Joseph F. Carpender Jr. of Carver; four sisters, Carrol Fitting and Dianne Holbrook, both of Brockton, Maryanne Carpender of Bridgewater and Bonnie Carpender of Middleboro; his brother, David Carpender of New Bedford; seven grandchildren; his dear friend, John Souza; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A Graveside service will be held at the Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne, Friday at 1 pm. Visiting hours will be held in the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater, Thursday from 6-8.
