CELEBRATION OF LIFE

We will celebrate Maryann’s life at 2:00 on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at Mystic Congregational Church East Main Street, Mystic, CT

Reception will follow at Ram Island Yacht Club, 60 Front St, Noank, CT. Parking is limited.

Please advise if you intend to come so we may properly prepare. In consideration of the covid pandemic we insist all attending be fully vaccinated. Covid protocols will apply. Should covid warrant, we will timely advise if the celebration is postponed.

Maryann Squadrito Read,76, of Groton passed July 18, 2021 at St Francis Hospital in Hartford CT after a long struggle with dementia. Her husband John and niece Tina were at her side. Her large extended family was there in spirit expressing their good byes by telephone. She was comfortable and at peace. The family recently enjoyed a reunion at her home. While she could not attend, it gave them the chance to support her and each other at this passage of life. A special thanks is made to her family primary caregivers Sandy, Terry and Tina.
Maryann was born March 24, 1944 in New London CT. She is predeceased by her parents William N Squadrito and Esther Grimes Squadrito of Mystic and her brothers Robert and William Squadrito of Mystic. She is survived by her husband and best friend John Read enjoying 49 years of marriage. Their devotion and love for each other was extraordinary and served as a wonderful example for others. She is also survived by their estranged son Aaron Read of East Providence RI. She enjoyed and was matriarch for a large family of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and their children and grandchildren often hosting parties and reunions at her home affectionately known as “Family Central”. Summer reunion pool parties, Christmas cookie fest and homemade ravioli parties were among her favorites. She grew up in Mystic, graduating from Stonington High School in 1962. She matriculated from Boston University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She was an accomplished artist dealing mostly with oils on canvas producing over 140 paintings. She is an Elected Artist of the Mystic Museum of Art. She was also an accomplished crafter producing many items for family, pleasure as well as supporting charitable causes. She is a longtime member of the Mystic Lions Club achieving numerous awards and was the principle architect of their successful wine tastings. She was baptized, confirmed, a life long member and was active for many years in the Mystic Congregational Church creating items for their bazaars and events. She was a member of Ram Island Yacht Club enjoying the camaraderie and was the provider of the club’s famous deviled eggs for many years. She enjoyed sailing on their boats all named Legacy. She enjoyed annual vacations to Florida with family as well as with friends to Seattle and Cuttyhunk. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, friends, cats and dogs, and family but most of all just having a good time while helping others.
A memorial service and reception will be in the near future. Burial will be private at the family’s convenience. Gifts in her memory are asked to be made to Mystic Congregational Church or the charity of your choice.
