Richard W. Kiberd
Retired North Andover teacher


ANDOVER: Richard W. Kiberd, age 79, a resident of Andover for 48 years, and member of the Free Christian Church, passed away at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, with his family by his side.

He was the beloved husband of Susan P. (Robart) Kiberd, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 26, 2021.

Born in Lowell on April 19, 1942, he was the son of the late Harold Kiberd and the late Edythe (Wentworth) Kiberd.

Richard was raised in North Chelmsford. He attended local schools and graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1959.
Following high school, he attended Northeastern University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree, and Suffolk University, where he received his Master’s Degree.

Prior to his retirement in 2002, Richard was employed as a teacher at the North Andover High School, where he worked for over 35 years. During his retirement years, he worked as a tutor at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill. In addition, he worked security for the Art Museum at Phillips Academy in Andover.

Richard loved to read but his passion was for the game of chess; he oversaw the Chess Club at North Andover High School. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Julia Williams and her husband Lanny, Portsmouth NH Police Sgt., Christopher D. Kiberd and his wife Brenda, Andover Police Officer, Kyle R. Kiberd, and Bryan D. Kiberd; his grandchildren, Christopher and Emma Williams, Gracelyn, Landon, Collin (who currently serves in the U.S. Navy), Kayleigh, Nevan, Rilynn, and Theodore Kiberd.

Family and friends are invited to his Memorial Service to be held on Tuesday July 20th at 11:00 AM at the Free Christian Church, 31 Elm Street, Andover. The memorial service will be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/575427229
