New Bedford – Maria “Gilda” (Cabral) Vasconcelos, age 87, of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Sacred Heart Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Care. She was the beloved wife of the late Nicolau Vasconcelos.
Gilda was born in Mosteiros, São Miguel, Azores to the late Luis Cabral and Maria (Alves) Cabral. She had worked for many years as a stitcher for a local clothing manufacturer.
She is survived by her son, Emanuel M. Vasconcelos and his wife Linda Vasconcelos; grandchildren, Christopher Vasconcelos, Justin Vasconcelos and Monica Vasconcelos; great-grandchildren, Avery Vasconcelos, Cole Vasconcelos and Emma Vasconcelos; 2 sisters, Fernanda Jacob and Bibia Cabral; as well as many nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her late son, Rui Vasconcelos and her late siblings, Almerinda Alexandre, Manuel Cabral, Jose Cabral, Alda Medeiros, Maria Jose Mateus, Teresa Almeida and Aniceto Cabral.
Gilda’s funeral service will be held on Saturday morning, July 17, 2021, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
