Obituary


Worcester : May I. Jacobson, 97, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2021. She is survived by her brother Carl A. Jacobson of Naples, FL; nieces Suzanne Cortis and her husband Stephen and Christine Joseph. May also leaves a great nephew Kyle Cortis and his wife Amy, great nieces Kristen Lanier and her husband Matthew, Nicole Joseph and Allison Joseph.

May was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Carl H. and Ingeborg S. (Larson) Jacobson and lived in Worcester all her life. She graduated from North High School and the Salter Secretarial School and took various American Institute of Banking courses. She worked at Worcester County Trust and successor banks, retiring from Shawmut National after 45 years of service, having been executive secretary to four different presidents.

She was well known in Worcester as a singer, having performed as a soprano soloist and with quartets and appeared on various local programs. She received a certificate for meritorious service with the USO for singing in various hospitals for servicemen during and after World War II. She was a former member of the Worcester Chorus and Salisbury Singers. She was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church , where she served as an assistant minister and member of the choir.

A calling hour will be held on Tuesday July 20, 2021 from 10-11 am in Zion Lutheran Church 41 Whitmarsh Ave. Worcester. A funeral service will follow at 11 am at the church, followed by burial in All Faiths Cemetery . Masks will be required at both calling hour and funeral service.
