Obituary

Richard P. Daniels, 56, of Providence, formerly of Woonsocket, died Saturday July 10, 2021 at Miriam Hospital in Providence.
Known to all as Rick, he was born in Westerly and was a son of Clyde Daniels and Barbara (Davis) Daniels. He was raised on the family farm in nearby Pawcatuck, Connecticut and graduated from Ella T. Grasso Southeastern Technical High School in Groton, Ct. He earned his associates degree in business management from Norwich College. He resided in Woonsocket for many years and lived in Providence in more recent times.
In his earlier years Rick worked at Electric Boat. After that Rick worked at several auto service stores including Western Auto, Advanced Auto and Monroe. He also worked for Loew’s Home Improvement stores. His most current job was with O’Reilly Auto Parts in Johnston.
Rick was all about cars. Anything auto-related he knew it like the back of his hand. Rick possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of cars and auto mechanics. From the front fender to the rear bumper all points in between Rick knew every inch and nook and cranny of a car. He was so skilled at mechanics that he could diagnose with surgical precision what was happening beneath the hood just by listening to the car or even have someone describe it to him. Oftentimes he would be able to suggest the correct (and least expensive) way to correct an issue. It gave Rick no end of satisfaction to be able to help people with their car issues. If they ever give out a doctorate in auto mechanics it will be named after Rick.
Rick's other passion in life was music. He was a gifted musician being able to play the guitar, the harmonica and saxophone. Music was the rhythm of Rick’s soul. Rick could truly express himself while paling music and providing upbeat and happy entertainment for those around him.
Besides cars and music Rick took much comfort in his plants that he tended to with meticulous care and attention. With much well-earned pride he grew several cacti, one of which just recently flowered after over 20 years of care….. You could say rick had quit the green thumb…..just gotta be careful with the cactus….they sting!
Rick will be remembered for the good times and fun he had along the road of life, as a true fan of the music of the 70s, 80s and 90s he rock-and-rolled through this crazy thig we call life…..and he had fun doing it!
Rick is survived by his parents Clyde and Barbara. He was the father of Sara A. Daniels of Pascoag and Gertrude L. Daniels of Indiana. He was the brother of Andrew Daniels of Chaplin, CT. He is survived by his former wife and friend Sara and Gertrude’s mother Jennifer Doyon of Pascoag. He is also survived by his extended family of several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At the request of the family services for Rick are private.
