Obituary

To view Livestream of the Funeral Mass for Ken and Annette Gear July 17, 2021 at 10am.

Kenneth T. Gear of Braintree Massachusetts passed away peacefully in the early hours of July 4, 2021 with his son by his side. Born on October 12, 1940, Ken was husband to Annette (Gleeson) Gear to whom he was married for over 57 years. The couple is survived by their three children Michael Gear, of Braintree, MA, and his better half Robin Muccini, Kenneth Gear, Jr. and his wife Jean Gear of Fairfax Station, VA and Brian Gear and his attack cat Salty of Braintree, MA. He had three grandchildren who brought him great joy, Shannon, Patrick “PJ”, and Lauren.

Born in Mission Hill, Boston, Ken was the son of the late Edna Gear and stepson of the late great Herbert Cossitt. He was a life-long member of the Mission Hill American Legion, Post 327 and a volunteer at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Braintree, MA.

Despite being almost completely deaf, Ken was a life-long salesman and negotiator. Together with his wife Annette, he was owner and proprietor of his own successful carpet store known as Brookline Carpet Sales in Brookline and later West Roxbury. In his early years, Ken also served a stint in the US Army.

While Ken had a big heart, sadly he will be remembered by many as someone who too often displayed a challenging personality, the exception was when he was with his grandchildren or his young nieces or nephews, when he was always an entertainer, always silly, fun and the life of the party. The time spent with them showed us what he had inside behind his often-challenging veneer.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours for Ken and his wife Annette in the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street West Roxbury on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 17th at The Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Mission Church) at 1545 Tremont Street, Mission Hill, MA 02120. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA.
