Obituary

Mabel Louise (Smith) Jones, a resident of Nashua, New Hampshire and formerly of West Medford and Malden, MA peacefully passed away on July 5, 2021, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA at age 73. Beloved wife of the late Van Ivan Jones and loving mother of Robert Jones of Springfield, MA and Trinnice Jones of Nashua, NH.

Born in Boston, MA on March 9, 1948, she was the beloved daughter of the late Edgar Smith and Katherine (Isaacs) Smith and siblings Marilyn Smith and Jeffrey Smith of West Medford and Karen (Smith) Gumbs of Anguilla. Mom grew up in West Medford, MA a distinct Black enclave of Boston, rich with culture and historic significance. Mabel's father, Edgar was the first Black police officer in Medford, MA.

In 1973, she started her career with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and worked in Internal/External Programs as a Civil Rights Specialist. Mom retired after 40 years of dedicated service in 2013 and was celebrated by family, friends and coworkers.

Mabel is survived by her loving children Robert and Trinnice Jones, her grandchildren Maxwell and Tristan Jones and her siblings, Marilyn Smith, Karen Gumbs and Jeffrey Smith and numerous family members.

The family would like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Brigham and Women's Hospital of Boston, MA and St. Joseph's Hospital of Nashua, NH for taking exception care of our mother. They exhibited love, patience and kindness as our mother transitioned.

Her memorial will be celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave, Medford, MA on Saturday, July 24, 2021 from 12noon - 2pm. Repass will be at 3pm at Anthony's of Malden, 105 Canal St, Malden MA. For additional information, please visit, www.magliozzifuneralhome.com.
