Obituary

Richard C. Jernstedt Sr, 88, died on July 5, 2021 in Conway, NH.

Born on March 24, 1933 in Jersey City, NJ he was the first son of Richard Jernstedt and Mary (Fallon) Jernstedt, and brother to Jack, Larry and Geraldine, all of NJ.

At the age of 20 Dick joined the United States Marine Corps . He became an aircraft electrician and was stationed at South Weymouth Air Station where he met his wife of 50 years the late Elizabeth (Slaney) Jernstedt. After getting married they raised 4 kids in Abington MA.

Dick worked at United Shoe Machinery in Whitman and rose to the title of Plant Manager.

After living in Abington for 30 years they moved to Humarock to be near the ocean. A devoted brother, husband and father, Dick did everything with his family…fishing, vacations at the Jersey Shore, cookouts , drive ins , coaching, you name it. Dick was an avid fisherman and true to his Viking blood only fished in the ocean. Many times both his brothers Jack and Larry would come up from New Jersey and some hilarious story would be born. There were near sinkings and boats flying like kites?.

He leaves behind his brother Lawrence of Keyport, NJ, son Richard C. Jernstedt Jr. and his wife Angela of Tewksbury, MA , daughter Laura Gorman and her husband Chris of Conway, NH , son Mark Jernstedt and his companion Kelly Flynn of Newport, RI , daughter Gail Hunt and her husband Doug of Marshfield, MA. He enjoyed spending time with his 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren as much as he did with his own kids. He surely will be missed by all.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Funeral Services on Monday July 19 at Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, MA. Viewing hours are 10 am- 12 noon followed by a short service. Burial will be at Colebrook Cemetery Whitman, MA.
