Obituary

Rita M. Petralia (102) of Melrose, MA passed away peacefully with her family by her side on July 10, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Paul J. Petralia, the daughter of the late Charles and Adele Carpenzano, the sister of the late Sara Carpi and Kenneth Carpi, and is survived by her brother Thomas Carpi and his wife Rita of Lynnfield, MA.
She was the loving mother to Joanne (Jody) Luongo and her husband Charles of Melrose, MA and Paul J. Petralia, Esq. and his wife Anne of Lynnfield, MA. She was a dedicated grandmother to her grandchildren, Chuck Luongo of Melrose, MA, Laurie Chaisson and her husband David of Saugus, MA, and Matthew Petralia of Lynnfield, MA. She also leaves behind two cherished great granddaughters Olivia and Ava Chaisson of Saugus, MA, and was a second mother and grandmother to her niece Janice Costa and her family. She is loved and will be missed greatly by many nieces, nephews, and devoted caregivers (Connie, Lucy, Alba, Jocelyn, Kate, and Jeanne, who became like family).
Rita was devoted to her family, as they were to her. She was a kind and beautiful person in every possible way with a heart of gold. Her infectious personality along with her love for those around her was immeasurable. Her love for singing and dancing would put a smile on all that knew her. As one of her favorite songs would say, “Show me the way to go home.” We know she made it home to her final destination, resting in heaven with her loved ones and sharing a dance with her beloved husband to their song “Amapola.''
