South Hiram - Carroll A. Leavitt, 92, of South Hiram died on July 8, 2021 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born in Porter on December 25, 1928 a son of Fred and Cora (Eastman) Leavitt and was educated in Porter schools. He married Doris Smith on August 30, 1947.
Carroll was a hard worker his whole life. He started his own egg delivery business when he was a young man that he operated for several years. He worked most of his life as a general contractor building area homes for many years. In his later years he owned and operated Village Variety in Kezar Falls for a couple of years.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. Carroll also had a great love for music. He was known for his singing and even got paid for it occasionally! He also loved dancing and many Saturday nights were spent dancing with Doris. He will be sadly missed by his family and all who loved him.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved wife, Doris. Also a son, Robert Leavitt, a sister, Doris Morin, and 2 brothers, Glen and Harold Leavitt. Surviving are 2 daughters, Nancy Withey and husband Gary of Cornish, and Tracy Jordan of Windham. Daughter-in-law, Marilyn Leavitt of Standish. 4 grandchildren: Kimberly Leavitt of Standish, Ralph Clark of Gorham, Dena Withey of Windham and Cody Jordan of Windham. 5 great grandchildren: Madison Parks, Jeffrey VanDermeiren, Lily VanDermeiren, Hunter Clark-Young and Matthew Clark-Young.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday, July 18, from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Poitras, Neal and York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Cornish. Online condolences may be expressed at: www.mainefuneral.com
