Obituary

Gracinda Carvalho Pereira, age 92, passed away on July 9, 2021 at the Willimansett Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 9, 1929 in Carris de Evora, Portugal, a daughter of the late Antonio and Joaoquina (Ferreira) Carvalho. Gracinda worked as a seamstress for Chicopee Undergarment for many years before she retired. Gracinda loved spending time with her family and sewing at home, making many clothing items to gift to her family, she loved to cook many wonderful Portuguese dishes and she made homemade Cheese faithfully throughout most of her life. In her earlier years while living in Portugal, making this homemade cheese and selling it, was one of the ways she was able to help support her growing family. Later on in life, she made cheese to gift to others, she would visit the local nursing homes and bring fresh Portuguese bread with her cheese to the residents there. Many of the residents or people she had met through the years may have been strangers to her, but she loved the smile on their faces when they tried her cheese. Gracinda’s love for people was contagious. She enjoyed walking at the local mall in her neighborhood, and did so often, always interacting with people, starting conversations with strangers was something she did often. Gracinda had a loving heart for the most vulnerable and always spread her love with a beautiful smile, through a warm kiss on the cheek and great big hug. She was cherished and adored by her family and will be greatly missed. She is predeceased by her first husband Joao Carvalho who passed away in 1976, by her second husband Jose Pereira who passed away in 2010, two children, Jose Alberto and Delmira Fernandes along with a daughter who passed away at birth; four brothers, Manuel Carvalho, Joaquim Carvalho, Jose Carvalho and Antonio Carvalho as well as three sisters Ana Leal, Carolina Inacio and Maria Ferreira.
