Obituary

Daniel T. "Fitzy" Fitzgerald, a 40 year resident of South Boston and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, July 9, 2021 at his Grandsons home in Atkinson, New Hampshire. He was 72 years of age.

Fitzy was born in Boston on March 25, 1949, a son of the late Helen F. (McCormack) Kelle and William "Red" Kelle. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated throughout the Boston Public School system. Fitzy worked on the Boston waterfront since the age of 18 for the Massport Authority as a Terminal Operator and also joined the Massport Police Department and worked as a Police Officer on the Boston waterfront for over 20 years. Fitzy was a lifetime member of the South Boston Yacht Club. In his spare time, He enjoyed walking the beach and around Castle Island in South Boston. Family was very important to Fitzy and he enjoyed all the special moments her shared with them and especially his grandchildren.

Fitzy is the loving Papa Danny to Sean Gleeson, Emily Gleeson, Connor O'Brien and Aiden O'Brien. He is the long term companion of the late Karen Gleeson. He is the devoted father to Tiffany O'Brien and her husband John. He is the dear friend of Mary Dichicco. He is the beloved brother of William Kelle, Mary Grocki, Maureen Kelle and Patricia DeAngelo. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Fitzy's visiting hours on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 4 to 7 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning, July 15, 2021 at 10 A.M. in the Gate of Heaven Church, 615 East Fourth St. South Boston. (PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO CHURCH). His burial is private.
