Obituary

Isaac David Bordwin, beloved husband of Jaime Bordwin, father of Daniel Bordwin and Isaiah Bordwin, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2021 after a long battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and GVHD.

David is survived by his father Milton Bordwin, his sister Malka Bordwin and brother Andrew Bordwin. He is bereaved by his sister-in-law Gabrielle Bordwin, nieces Tamar and Zolenge, mother-in-law Sheila Dern and brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Maureen Dern, his nieces and nephews Katie, Teagan, Jacob and Dominic. He is also survived by his bone marrow donor Anika Schultz, her husband Frank and her son Johann. Anika’s selfless gift gave David seven more years of life to enjoy with his family and friends.

Many people knew David through his restaurant Bordwin & Sons. Others knew him as Candy Man, the moniker he used while playing competitive poker. He coached Bridgewater Little League baseball, East Coast Eagles and Hitman AAU baseball teams, and he announced for the Bridgewater Badger’s youth football league as The Voice of Bridgewater. David’s interests ranged from classical music to heavy metal, from cooking a five star meal to enjoying a PB&J sandwich. He loved talking with people, was comfortable in any social gathering and was a hit with any age group. He thoroughly enjoyed and excelled at being a stay-at-home dad, always teaching his sons to be adventurous, responsible, polite and kind to everyone. He also taught his boys never to have regrets, regardless of the outcome of decisions well made.

David became woven into the social fabric of his community through his work with youth sports and organizations, and when he was diagnosed and treated for leukemia, the community returned that devotion through their generous support of him and his family. It was the immeasurable kindness of these Bridgewater friends that sustained him, Jaime and the boys through the years of his struggle. David never let his illness stop him. You could still find him basking shirtless in the sun and enjoying a baseball game regardless of what havoc the illness was wreaking on his body. His example as a father, a fighter and a friend will always be with us.
