Obituary

WATERBORO- Gary Arthur Durkee, 63, of Waterboro, ME, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday July 1, 2021.

Gary was born in Newport, Vermont on April 19, 1958. Son of the late George Arthur Durkee and Betty-Jane (Spates) Durkee. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1976 where he thrived on being their number one Soccer Goalie.

Throughout life, his passion was being a Volunteer Firefighter for Newport, Vermont and Limerick, Maine Fire Departments.

"Papa Durkee" always made everyone laugh with his crazy sense of humor and endless stories of growing up in Newport with his best friend "Brother Rick", who has always been a significant part of his life. Gary had a huge heart and was always there to help anyone in need. He was an avid contractor and craftsman for many years and held much pride in helping his girls with all their home projects. At the end of the day, his four kids were his life.

He also had a love for golfing with his family, bowling, nascar, skiing at Jay Peak Resort, hunting with friends in the woods of Maine, wood working at Door North, boating, gardening, cooking for everyone, Indian Pow Wows and country music.

Fishing with his kids and grandchildren was by far his favorite thing to do while still trying to convince them that bacon and corn would catch the biggest fish.

Gary is survived by his mother, Betty-Jane Durkee of Florida, brother Todd Durkee of New Hampshire and sister Tammy Dopp of Florida. His former wife Susan Morrisette of New Hampshire and their children; Jennifer Binette and husband Chad of Lyman, Jolene Durkee and partner Kevin of Waterboro, Jason Kearney and partner Kita of Biddeford and Jeffrey Kearney and wife Alicia of Limington. His grandchildren Jayce, Maverick, Riley, Lincoln, Lily and Cole. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

At Gary's request there will be no services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital who cared for his grandson while battling cancer.
