Obituary

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Mary Anne (Gironda) Pappas, 97, of West Springfield, passed away peacefully July 1, 2021 with her loving children by her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gus Pappas (2008). Mary Anne was a vibrant, loving mom, grandma and great grandma who taught us all how to keep love in our hearts and delicious food on the table. She leaves to cherish her memory; her son, Mark and his wife Pat Pappas, and daughters, Catherine Pappas and Elizabeth Frogameni. She loved her grandchildren, Max (Adel) Pappas, Emily (Eric) Boone, Marlow (Sarah Riga) Frogameni, and Katina (Gabriel) Zaharis, and cherished her great grandchildren, Miles and Molly Pappas, Charlotte and Marshall Boone and Adeline and Charlie Riga Frogameni. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families, especially Mary Lynn Peacor, Frank (Melanie) Gironda, Lisa (Jeff) Lucier and Laurie Lucier. During her long and wonderful life, she had the pleasure and honor to work until age 95, in later years volunteering at her church office and overseeing hundreds of coffee hours. She also enjoyed cooking the recipes of the greatest chefs at The Big E and making cream puffs in The Big E Bakery. She was most proud of receiving the Ministry Award of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston (2010) and the Agape Award from the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society (2014). She was also predeceased by; her nephew, Christian Paul Gironda, brother, Frank Gironda, and in-laws, Lou, Bessie and Nick Frangus, Angie Tougias, and Frank and Flo Dunia. The family would like to thank Springfield Senior Services, Stavros and O’Connell Care at Home who helped make it possible for Mary Anne to remain in her home, and especially to her wonderful caregiver, Vivica King. Mary Anne will Lie in Repose on Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. Burial is private. Memorial donations may be made to Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral Endowment Fund, 22 Saint George Road, Springfield, MA 01104.
