Obituary

Joaquim Ribeiro, age 84, passed away on July 1, 2021 at Vero Health and Rehab of Wilbraham. He was born on April 12, 1937 in Fagilde, Portugal. He was the son of the late Casmiro and Maria (Jesus) Ribeiro. Joaquim served in the Portuguese Army and married the love of his life Maria (Couto) Ribeiro in 1957. They later moved to The United States. He lived most of his life in Chicopee and worked for 33 years at Danaher, the former Moore Drop Forge, in local Union #228. He was a communicant of Holy Name of Jesus Parish and a member of the Chicopee Portuguese American Club since 1966. Joaquim enjoyed watching Soccer especially his favorite team, Sporting Club de Portugal. He also enjoyed to garden, travel, take trips to the casino, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Maria (Couto) Ribeiro of Chicopee; 1 son, Louis Ribeiro and his wife Filomena of Chicopee; 2 daughters, Susana Silva of Springfield and Lidia Sousa of Chicopee; 1 sister, Leonilde Araral of Chicopee; 8 beloved grandchildren, Luis, Shaun, Andrew, Michael, Cristina, Nicole, Marilia, Louis and 4 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his 8 brothers, Manuel, Adelino, Anacelto, Jose`, Americo, Alfredo, Francisco and Formino Ribeiro along with 1 sister Marcia Costa. Calling hours will be held on the morning of the funeral, Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 8:30 – 10:30 AM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Name/Assumption Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association, www.Alz.org.
