CORNISH- Barbara Jean Stone, age 86, passed away on July 2, 2021, at Evergreen Manor in Saco.
She was born in Cornish at her farm home on July 13, 1934, a daughter of the late Charles Sr. and Izola (Parsons) Stone.
She attended the Cornish school and graduated in 1953. Barbara worked at W.T. Grant’s in Portland for 2 ½ years, and for the New England Telephone Company in Cornish for seven years. After her father’s death, Barbara studied Christian education and graduated from the Baptist Institute for Christian Education in Bryn Mawr, PA. Barbara worked out of state for almost 20 years. In 1978, she moved back to Cornish to help care for her mother until her death in 1988. She retired in 1999 after working for 20 years at Vulcan Electric.
Barbara’s hobbies included reading, knitting, horseback riding, and visiting shut in people.
She was a member of the Free Baptist Church in Limerick and Hilltop Baptist Church in Cornish.
She is predeceased by siblings- Charles Stone Jr., George Stone, and Eleanor Sawyer.
Barbara is survived by her siblings- Donald Stone and his wife Sherry of Cornish and Elizabeth “Betty” Elwell and her Husband Richard of Boynton Beach, FL and sister in law Ruth Stone of Cornish; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday July 8 from 1 – 2 PM at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., in Cornish. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 2 PM with Pastor John Libby officiating. Burial will then follow at Riverside Cemetery in Cornish.
