Obituary

John D. Tinkham, 73, of Derry, NH, died Monday June 28, 2021 in the Parkland Medical Center in Derry. He was born in Derry on June 26, 1948, a son of the late Frederick and Lydia (Lech) Tinkham. He had been a resident of Derry for the past 30 years, formerly living in Windham, NH where he grew up and attended school. He was a US Navy Vietnam veteran serving as a SEABEE and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. While stationed at Camp Haskins in North Vietnam, he received a commendation from his commanding officer for his superhuman effort while concrete batching. John was well known in the area as "The Firewood Guy", which was voted the "Best of Londonderry 2020".

He is survived by his sister, Judy Tinkham of Windham; one niece; one nephew; and several grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Fred Tinkham.

Private services will be held in the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc. / American Stroke Assoc., PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005, or to the American Cancer Society, 3 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry are assisting the family with arrangements.
