Clara McDowell (Carley) DeMallie, 93
Worcester—Clara McDowell (Carley) DeMallie, daughter of Clara McDowell and Glenn Carley, was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania and died in Worcester on Friday, March 31, 2006, at the age of 93. She attended Sharon High School and received her B.A. degree from Smith College in 1934. She and her late husband, Gardener Graves DeMallie, were married in 1935. Together they lived and raised their family in Worcester. Mrs. DeMallie was active in the community up until the time of her death. She was involved at Girls Inc. for more than 55 years. She was a board member and was elected as a lifetime member in 1988 and later received the Volunteer of the Year Award created in her honor in 2005. She was on the Altar Guild of All Saints Church and maintained the church linens weekly. She was an active member of The Smith Club, The Worcester Garden Club, The Worcester County Horticultural Society at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, The Worcester Art Museum, The Antiquarian Society, the Music Guild and the Junior League.

Mrs. DeMallie is survived by her children, Clara and her husband John Sherwin, Jr., of Waite Hill, Ohio; Glenn C. DeMallie of Worcester; and Margaret and her husband John C. Goodnoe of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is predeceased by sons Gardener G. DeMallie, Jr., whose surviving spouse is Margaret W. DeMallie of Charlottesville, VA and Bayard T. DeMallie II, whose surviving spouse is Betsy C. DeMallie of West Boylston. She is survived by a brother, John A. Carley and his wife Joan Keir Carley. Mrs. DeMallie has 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 7 nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church, on Wednesday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Girls, Inc., 25 Providence St., Worcester, MA 01604, The Altar Guild of All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Irving St., Worcester, MA 01609, or NEADS, PO Box 213, West Boylston, MA 01583.
