Obituary

Joseph P. "Joe" Hughes, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston following a courageous battle while awaiting a heart and kidney transplant. He was 61 years of age.

Joe was born in Boston on August 18, 1959, a son of Patricia A. "Pat" (McDonnell) Kane and the late Richard P. Hughes. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1977. Joe worked as a Laborer for several manufacturing and technology companies in the area before his health began to decline. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed spending time on the beach, scuba diving and indulging in a nice cocktail. Family was paramount in Joe's life and he took special care if his Mom and enjoyed the quality moments he shared with his brother, sister, 2 nephews a niece and his Papa Joe.

Joe is the devoted son of Patricia A. "Pat" (McDonnell) Kane and the late Richard P. Hughes and Joseph C. Kane. He is the beloved brother of Richard A. Hughes and his wife Carole, Eileen M. Hughes and her husband Billy Marsden and Joseph Kane and his wife Jackie. He is the loving uncle to Cory Hughes, Derrick Hughes and Monica Mangin. He is the loving nephew of Tom McDonnell. He is also survived by his many loving cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joe's visiting hours on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 from 3 P.M. to 6 P.M. followed by a Prayer Service at 6 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Joe's burial will be private.
