Obituary

Margaret Mary Powers, 63, of Swampscott, MA passed away on June 23, 2021. Peggy was born and raised in Springfield. She graduated from Cathedral High School and Springfield College and received her Ph.D. from Tufts University. Peggy was predeceased by her mother Connie Powers and leaves behind her cherished husband Michael Maniscalco and her most precious gift, her son Eliot. During her lifetime, Peggy wore many hats. She was a professor at Tufts and Springfield College and a children’s cruise director for Sitmar Cruise line. She developed the Child Life Program at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Peggy was also an American sign language interpreter and the author of The Activity Gourmet as well as an exceptional sea glass artist and gardener.

She was a wise and courageous lady who filled our life with an abundance of joy. She fought her illness fearlessly for 21 years with grace, infectious laughter, and a never ending positive attitude. She will be remembered for her loving spirit and so much more.

A Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield on July 16, at 11:00. Celebrations of life will be held later in Springfield and Swampscott. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Liver Foundation and becoming an organ donor.
