Obituary

George A. Ladeau Jr., age 92, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 18, 1928 in Chicopee, the son of the late George Ladeau Sr. and Blanche Rose (Dauphinais) Ladeau. George served in the US Marine Corps and was a Korean War Veteran. During his time in the military, he received many prestigious awards including a Purple Heart. George was known as “Mr. Ladeau” and “Coach” at Chicopee Comprehensive High School where he taught Biology for thirty six years. He loved being the coach for the Freshman football team for twenty six years. He was an avid collector his whole life and enjoyed going to flea markets. He especially loved collecting handcuffs and beer signs that he hung in his house and his shed where he spent a lot of time. He loved listening to country music, reading the Sunday funnies and learning Italian for fun. After retiring, he spent his time learning his Genealogy, taking trips all over the world, but most of all, making his big yard look beautiful. On any nice day, you could count on seeing him outside gardening and enjoying a nice, cold beer. He is survived by his loving wife Anna (Lamanna) Ladeau of Chicopee who he shared over 70 years with; his son, George Ladeau III and his wife Mary of Granby; his daughter, Jolene Peloquin and her husband Rene of Chicopee. He is predeceased by his son, Kenneth Ladeau. He is survived by his nine grandchildren; Sara and her husband Thomas, Heather and her husband Tony, Lisa and her husband Mark, Kevin, Andrew, Michael and his long time girlfriend Jackie, Haley, Hillary and Nicole along with ten great grandchildren who he cherished. He enjoyed his grandchildren’s company more than anything and always had a history lesson, card trick or something new to teach them. An extra special Thank You to the Nursing staff on Springfield 1 who cared for George in his final days. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 7:00 – 8:00 PM at Grise` Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee.
