Maria deGrace (Costa Braga) Pereira, age 85, of Taunton, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 21, 2021 ay Longmeadow of Taunton. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose J. Pereira, who died in 1975.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, she was a loving daughter of the late Maria Costa and Antonio M. Braga.
Maria grew up and was educated in Portugal. She moved to the United States in 1978 and settled in Taunton, where she has made her home ever since.
Mrs. Pereira was a hard worker and prior to retiring had worked for fifteen years at the former Eureka Manufacturing Co. in Norton and the former Corcoran Shoe Co. in Stoughton for ten years.
A faithful communicant of Saint Anthony’s Church in Taunton, Maria’s love for her family was unconditional. She loved walking, going to church and visiting the elderly. Another favorite time of hers was get-togethers with cousins to joke around and play cards and dominos.
She is survived by her loving and devoted son Emanuel J. Pereira and his wife Ermelinda of Taunton. She was the cherished grandmother of Michelle Weesner and her husband David of Taunton and Tanya Pereira of Taunton. She was the dear sister of Duarte Braga of Florida, Jose Braga of Rhode Island and the late Antonia Braga and Maria Pereira. She is also survived by her many and adoring nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting on Thursday, June 24th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Taunton Memorial Funeral Home, 8 Crapo Street (Off Route 140, Tremont Street) Taunton.
Her Funeral will begin on Friday, June 25th at 8:00 A.M. from the Taunton Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in Saint Anthony’s Church, 126 School Street, Taunton. Burial will follow at the Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton.
