Obituary

Douglas W. Maxwell, 79

Dateline: Norton, MA

Douglas W. Maxwell, age 79, of Norton, formerly of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 21, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Marsha J. (Farrell) Maxwell, to whom he was wed for nearly thirty-eight years.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island on April 21, 1942, he was a loving son of the late William J. and Hazel N. (Hill) Maxwell.

Doug grew up and was educated in Mansfield. He was a 1960 graduate of Mansfield High School, where he excelled in sports and in 2018, was inducted into Mansfield Football Hall of Fame. Following high school, he studied at Massasoit Community College.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Maxwell worked for twenty-five years for the Mansfield Electric Department. He began his career as a Lineman and upon retirement, held the position of Supervisor.

Although a resident of Norton for only six years, Mansfield was truly where Doug hung his hat and was well-known and respected in the community. His family was the essence of his life and his lifelong love for sports, especially football, was second to none. He shared his enthusiasm of sports with his children and grandchildren and was proudest when standing on the sidelines cheering them on.

Doug was a passionate golfer and a member of the Foxborough Country Club. He was also a member of the Mansfield Grid Iron Club and at the time of his death was anticipating the birth of his first great grandchild.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Cindy L. McCarron and her husband Mark of Mansfield, Douglas G. Maxwell and his wife Judy of Mansfield and Ashley M. Shaw of North Attleboro. He was the treasured grandfather of Chelsey R. DeAngelo and her husband Joseph of Dorchester, Grace E. Maxwell of Mansfield and Maxwell A. Shaw of North Attleboro. He was the dear brother of Maureen E. McGown of North Attleboro and her late husband Jack, Suzanne J. Maxwell of Mansfield, Donald B. Maxwell and his wife Susie of Mansfield and the late William H. Maxwell and his late wife Dorinne. He is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
