Obituary

Mrs. Lena Mae (Williams) Phillips, a longtime resident of Medford, and beloved wife of the late Oscar Phillips Jr, passed away in her Medford home on Friday June 18,2021. She was 87 years old.

Born in Eastanollee, Georgia, She was the beloved daughter of Luther H. Williams and Georgia S Williams. Lena was employed as a Superviser in the Telephone co until her early retirement at 55 years of age. Lena was very active in community work. She worked along side Mayor McGlynn, Chief Sacco and was President of the NAACP for a number of years. Lena was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in West Medford and St. John Baptist Church of Boston. She will be dearly missed.

Lena is survived by her loving children; Paula D. and her husband Craig T. DeGroff of Dracut, and Wayne D. Phillips of Medford, grandchildren Jeffery J. Phillips, and Amanda M. Phillips, greatgrandson; Messiah Mount Vernon Phillips-Kwenda, and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Bernard C Phillips and sister of the late Ruby, Johnnie Lee, Earnest Frank, Lucile Elizabeth, Hershel Mozell, Marion Williams, Johnnie Hayward.

Viewing will be Wednesday night June 23rd 2021, from 6 to 8 PM in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford. Private burial will take place at VA National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. Donations to your favorite Charity In memory of Lena can be made. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Beals-Geake-Magliozzi.
