Shirley McKie Dobbins, 78, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, June 18, 2021, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Monday, June 21, 2021, at Crossview Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Tommy Land, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary on Monday.
Mrs. Dobbins was born November 22, 1942, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Marvin McKie and Ouida Tedders McKie Tucker. When she was two years old, Mrs. Dobbins’ father, a Sergeant in the United States Army serving in Germany, was killed in action.
She was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and worked as a seamstress for Fitzgerald Underwear and The Champion Company. For 15 years, she worked at Dorminy Medical Center as unit secretary for the ICU. She loved reading, especially books by David Jeremiah. She enjoyed attending church and listening to gospel music. Mrs. Dobbins was a member of Crossview Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children: Jeffery Dobbins of Fitzgerald, Malissa & Ronny Parrish of Abbeville, and Teresa & James McBryant of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Lindsey Dobbins Watkins & Lee, Brandon McBryant, Jamie & Amanda McBryant, Clayton Parrish, Clint & Carla Revels, and Lori & Joshua Norton; 11 great-grandchildren: siblings: Marvin & Beverly McKie of Summerville, South Carolina, Mike & Vicky Tucker of Pace, Florida; Cindy Tucker of Ocilla, Zelna Nunn of Fitzgerald, Sandra Singletary of Fitzgerald, and Larry Tucker of Lake City, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father who raised her, W.B. Tucker; as well as her husband, Elton Dobbins.
