Barbara L. Murphy, 88, of Derry, NH, passed away Monday June 14, 2021 in Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry. She was born on August 15, 1932 in Lawrence, MA, a daughter of the late James and Elsie (Firth) Smith, and had been a resident of Derry for the past 21 years. Barbara was raised in Lawrence, MA, before living most of her life in Methuen, MA. She worked for several area nursing homes. Barbara enjoyed playing bingo.
She is survived by two sons, David Murphy and Charles Van Coppenolle, two daughters, Deborah Thomsen and Linda Sadowitz; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, one brother, Robert Smith. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Harry Murphy in 1992.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Monday June 21, 2021 at 11:00am in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the funeral home from 10-11am prior to the start of the service. Face masks are recommended for those who are not fully vaccinated.
