Priscilla (Burgo) Gomes, 97, of Acushnet died Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at St. Anne's Hospital after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Marcelino R. "Charlie" Gomes.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Henrique and Mary (Lomba) Burgo, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
She worked as a bookkeeper for several companies in New Bedford and retired from the NBHS cafeteria department in 1989.
While a member of the International Church of the Nazarene in New Bedford, she headed up Senior Adult Ministry for many years. She enjoyed planning and traveling with the seniors on their monthly day outings.
Survivors include her son, John Gomes and his wife Brenda of Acushnet; her granddaughter, Karen DeMedeiros of New Bedford; two great-grandchildren, Aaron Gomes and Jacquelyne DeMedeiros; and her great-great-grandson, Malachi DeMedeiros, all of New Bedford. She is also survived by three nieces, Brenda Figueroa of New York, Susan Barros of California, and Dianne Gomes of Raynham.
She was the sister of the late Candida "Katie" Barros, Theresa J. Ming, and Joseph Burgo, who died as an infant.
Her Homegoing Celebration will be held Friday, June 18, 2021 at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 5-7 PM. For directions and guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
