William Patrick McLean 1940-2021

William Patrick McLean, 80, of Danbury, NH, passed away on June 3, 2021 at Concord Hospital, in Concord, NH.

He was born August 15, 1940 in Yonkers, NY. Son of the late Dan Ignatius McLean and Julia Elizabeth (Duffy) McLean. William, “Bill”, grew up in Yonkers, NY. As a teenager, Bill found his passion for horses at Yonkers Raceway where he groomed and trained trotters and pacers for harness racing. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was the only graduate to score 100% on his practical exam which allowed him to serve as an Aircraft Mechanic. His fondest memories were serving in the Azores in the early 1960’s. After he left the service, he trained to become a ferrier and developed various skills that earned him a professional career as a horseshoer and blacksmith. Bill trained, bred, shod, drove sulky and educated other trainers over the years at racetracks up and down the eastern seaboard. Bill was a fixture at Rockingham Racetrack and Scarborough Downs. He loved being a horseman! He lived out his retirement years at The Far and Away Farm in Danbury, NH, with his wife of 40 years, Kim Pamela (Lipinsky) McLean and their beloved horses and many other pets.

He is survived by his wife, Kim Pamela (Lipinsky) McLean of Danbury, NH. and her two daughters, Aimee Beth (Kaplan) Morgida and her husband Paul Morgida of Mashpee, MA, Heather Kristine (Kaplan) Vasquez and her husband, Dr. Daniel Vasquez, DDS, of Laconia, NH, his former wife, Linda (Jones) Calhoun of Exeter, NH, and their three children, daughters, Kelley Janet (McLean) Roy and her husband, Robert Bielert of Lebanon, CT, and Jettie Lin McLean and her companion Brian Wood of Epping, NH, son, Christopher William McLean and his companion Vanessa Desimone of Exeter, NH, and his nine grandchildren: William Roy, Jayne Bolduc, Jenna Maurice, Brian Wagner, Joseph Wagner, Shayna Morgida, Ned (Anthony) Arender, Christopher McLean, Collin McLean, his three great-grandsons: Noah and Luka Bolduc and Buckley Maurice and his niece, Susan Jones and her son Zachary Jones.

A fond goodbye to all of his farm and track friends, and a special goodbye to Benahiah McCullough and family, Jeffa Parker and her son, Harry Parker, Lisa Zumalt and her daughters Sabrina, Valerie and McKayla Kimberly Connerly.

Bill will be missed by all who loved him.

Services will be held on Tuesday, June 15th, 2021 from 10am- 12pm at Casper Funeral Services, 187 Dorchester St., Boston, MA 02127. The burial will be held on the same day at 2:30 pm at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.

Donations in Bill's memory may be made to St. Judes Hospital.
