Obituary

Marilyn Faye Pope, 79 of Ocilla, Georgia, died Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Legacy Village in Tifton, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Sunday, June 13, 2021, at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Irwin County, Georgia, with the Rev. John Gibbs, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Ocilla, Georgia.

Mrs. Pope was born July 10, 1941, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Zack & Ida Mae Roberts Pate. She graduated from Irwin County High School and lived in the community all of her life. She worked for Red & White Grocery, was a homemaker and also worked in the family-owned businesses. She returned to school at the age of 50 and earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from ABAC in 1997. After working at Dorminy Medical Center, she owned and operated Shiloh Personal Care Home in Ocilla for 20 years. Mrs. Pope, known to her family as “Teetle”, will be remembered as the greatest Mom and loved spending time with her grandkids. She will be greatly missed by her cats. Active in the ministries of Bethlehem Baptist Church for many years, she was a member of Ocilla Baptist Church where she formerly sang in the choir.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wendell Pope of Ocilla; children: Tim & Betsy Pope of Ocilla, Terry & Nan Pope of Ocilla and Tamara Pope of Augusta; grandchildren: Ashli & Zachary Ross, Jewelle Pope, Nikki Pope, Teddi Pope, Wyatt Pope, Josiah Pope, Mara Ledwith, Justin Pope and Dane Ledwith; two great-grandchildren: Rhett Ross & Ridley Ross and two sisters: Betty Howells of Macon and Deloria Ann & Neil Denham of Sylvester. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Avery Pate and Dalton Pate and a sister, Robena Cannon.

The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the care and compassion shown Mrs. Pope by the staff of Legacy Village and the nursing team of Regency Southern Care Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to a local humane society or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2402 North Tift Avenue, Suite 102, Tifton GA 31794.
