
Lionel R. Peloquin, 91, of Windward Circle, Narragansett, formerly of Danecroft Avenue, Greenville, died Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Overlook Nursing and Rehabilitation in Burrillville. He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Langton) Peloquin who died on March 25, 2021. They had been married for 68 years.
Lionel enjoyed community service. In its beginning he was president of the Smithfield Boy’s Club and he also served on the Water Board.
Lionel was the owner and operator of Pel’s Sunoco located in Smithfield and Ashland Massachusetts.
Lionel served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany.
Lionel is survived by his children: Sheila M. Layfield, of Smithfield, John F. Peloquin of Inverness, FL and Thomas J. Peloquin of Mauldin, South Carolina, his four grandchildren: Stephanie M. Malo, Paul J. and Michael S. McGinn and James T. Peloquin and his siblings: Muriel Cyr of North Smithfield and George Peloquin of Florida. He was the father of the late James L. Peloquin and Eleanor “Ellie” McGinn, and brother of the late Walter, Raymond and Robert Peloquin and Eleanor Reed. He was the father-in-law of the late Dennis J. Layfield.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday at 11am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, North Smithfield. Visitation Thursday morning 9:30-10:30am. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to St. Clare Newport, 309 Spring Street, Newport, R.I. 02840
