Obituary

KENNEY, Richard Paul, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2021. He was born on July 2, 1928 in Boston, MA, the son of D. Roger and Elizabeth F. (Doherty) Kenney. He was one of four children and was preceded in death by siblings Daniel R., Jr., Justine, and Peter.

He graduated from Cranwell School and the College of the Holy Cross and throughout his life remained proud of his Jesuit education. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Holy Cross football. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II.

He became interested in recreational flying at an early age and received a pilot’s license and flew until his 80’s. Flying was his passion, and he was happiest while aloft, or even going to air shows or sitting in a hangar reminiscing with fellow pilots.

He worked in the insurance business for his whole life at such companies as American Home, Travelers, John L. Gwydir and Sons, and Sutton James. He began as a general insurance agent but specialized more in aviation insurance as the years went on.

He is survived by his five children, Mary Beth Sweet of Union, NJ, Catherine Morrison of Flossmoor, IL, Richard Kenney, Jr of Suwanee, GA, Terence Kenney of Short Hills, NJ and Anne Utley of Upper Montclair, NJ. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St Mary’s Church, 420 High St., Dedham, on Wednesday, June 9 at 11:00am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment will be in St Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
