Obituary

Dennis MacGillivray died on May 28, 2021. He resided with his beloved wife of 55 years, Karen (Koerber) MacGillivray in Tyngsboro and Chelmsford.

Dennis was born in Glacé Bay Nova Scotia, Canada on April 25, 1937 to Margaret (Campbell) MacGillivray and Charles MacGillivray. His childhood was spent in Nova Scotia until the family relocated to Massachusetts.

After graduation from Braintree High School Dennis proudly enlisted in the US Navy to serve his new country.

Dennis earned a BA in finance from UMass Amherst. His long business career in high tech companies included international contributions for Honeywell Information Systems, American Optical and DEC. In his post retirement, Dennis assisted others by working for the IRS.

In addition to his wife Karen, Dennis is survived by his sons; Daniel MacGillivray and his wife Nancy of Maine and James MacGillivray and his wife Michelle of California. Dennis relished his role as Grampy to Connor and Ali MacGillivray of California, the pride and joys of his later life. The legacies of his kindness and generosity of spirit will live on in them.

Left with decades of smiles and fond memories are his siblings and their spouses; James MacGillivray and his wife Brenda of Halifax, MA, John MacGillivray and his wife Gloria of Hingham, Joanne Donovan of NJ, Judith Belanger and her husband Robert of Braintree, Rosemary Cronin of Marbelhead, Leone MacGillivray, Louise MacGillivray of Braintree, Kathy MacGillivray of SC, brother-in-law Karl Koerber of NV. Dennis was predeceased by siblings Joseph MacGillivray, Helen DeWolfe and Leonard MacGillivray. Dennis also leaves many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dennis’ family and numerous lifelong friends will miss his gentle humor, kindness and his genuine interest in others, as was always evidenced by his warm smile, listening ear and broad shoulders.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Trinity Parish (formerly Saint Catherine’s) 107 North Main Street Westford MA on June 22nd at 10:00AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dennis’s memory to the UMASS Newman Center Capital Campaign Fund, 472 North Pleasant Street, Amherst MA. 01002 (413-549-0300)
