Obituary

Mr. Paul L. Manning, Jr., a longtime resident of Andover and beloved husband of the late Judith A. (Paulsen) and Linda Jean (Rayen) passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home on Monday, May 24, 2021. He was 82 years old.

Born in Brookline, Massachusetts, on May 14, 1939, Paul was the beloved son of the late Paul L. Manning, Sr. and Mary F. (Ryan) Manning. Mr. Manning was a graduate of the Vesper George School of Art in Boston and went on to have a very fulfilling and successful career as Vice President of Sales for Albert Basse Associates, a silk screen printing company for 47 years. Paul was also one of the owner and operators of Lasso the Moon, an antique shop in East Burke, VT., with his wife Jude and dear friends Bobby Baker and David Thomas.

Paul was a special person to be around; strong, proud, engaging and compassionate. He had a huge heart, vibrant spirit and was always interested in sharing insight and advice. A natural leader and mentor to many, Paul had an exceptional work ethic and was always willing to help. He lived life on his own terms, offering guidance and leading by example. He was a true artist and appreciated beauty, color, and quality – he saw life through that lens which we were so blessed to share. He loved Irish music and the festivals, the outdoors, taking long drives over back roads, time spent at Boy Scout camp as Director of Swimming, and mostly the adventurous summers chartering the family boat down the Annisquam and the beautiful winters skiing Burke Mountain in Vermont with dear friends. Over the years, Paul and his wife Jude traveled extensively to Ireland, the Caribbean and Germany. He also spent many weekends in New York City enjoying time with his son David. Paul loved his family above all else, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who was actively involved in all of our lives, every day of his. His sparkling blue eyes and amazing mane of hair, strong spirit, and warm heart will be forever with us.

Paul is survived by his loving children; Paul and his wife Ruthann Manning of Methuen, Whitney and her husband Paul Keeley of Windham, New Hampshire, Melissa and her husband Anthony Morgante of Andover and Rebecca and her husband Justin Zuill of Bedford, New Hampshire, siblings; William and his wife Maryann Manning of Las Vegas, Nevada, Gail and her husband Mark Romeo of Amesbury and Carole and her husband Richard Kim of Almeda, California, cherished grandchildren; Madyson and Adeline Keeley, Anthony and Linda Morgante and Savannah and Owen Zuill and many nieces and nephews. He was also the loving father of the late David A. Manning and brother of the late Robert Manning, Patricia O’Keefe, Mary Manning, and Edward Manning.

His Funeral Service will be celebrated in the Free Christian Church, 31 Elm Street, Andover on Friday, June 4, 2021. Calling hours will take place in the church from 9:30 to 10:30 with the service immediately following at 10:30. Interment will be privately held. In lieu of flower donations in Paul’s memory may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice at caredimensions.org or to Sloan Kettering’s rare cancer research at cycleforsurvival.org.
