Obituary

HOLLIS- Paul John MacDonald, age 84, of Dennett Road, passed away peacefully at his home on May 21, 2021.

He was born on April 26, 1937, a son of the late John and Catherine (Grace) MacDonald and graduated from Hollis High School.

Paul proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Paul was also highly active within the community. He was a member of Buxton Masonic Lodge #115 AF&AM, the Jaycees, and the Hollis Planning Board.

For 37 years, Paul was employed by SD Warren and served in various roles including being the Pulp Yard Foreman.

Paul enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, and golfing. The 36” 10-pound togue that he caught on Roach Pond was a highlight of his outdoor adventures. He also enjoyed dancing, bowling, spending time at his camp in Frenchtown, playing cribbage, cards, making puzzles, reading, and snacking on lobster, cheeseballs, home baked sweets, and Big Daddy’s orange pineapple ice cream. He enjoyed sports and watching his grandchildren play at all levels. Family was very important to Paul.

He enjoyed going to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and racing there himself years ago. He was an accomplished welder and crafted many things as a hobby.

He enjoyed a retirement journey to Alaska with his friend Ed. He and his long term companion, Nancy Parkey also traveled many miles including a couple of cross country trips.

It should be noted that he enjoyed giving everyone a hard time.

He is predeceased by his wife of 50 years- Beverly MacDonald; and siblings- Hugh MacDonald, Richard MacDonald, and a sister- Rachel Belanger.

Paul is survived by his long-time partner of 12 years- Nancy Parkey; children- Pamela Davis, Wayne MacDonald and his wife Roxanne, and Tim MacDonald and his wife Sherri; a brother- Albert MacDonald; grandchildren- Paul Short, Shannon Lyon and husband Jeff, Alayna Richardson and her husband Shawn, Jessica MacDonald and John MacDonald; great grandchildren- Finley Paul Short and Ava Lyon, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family is so grateful to Nancy and his Virginia family for their love and being such an important part of his life.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday May 27 from 6 – 8 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. During the visiting hours at 7:30 there will be a Masonic Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held on Friday May 28 at 11 AM at South Buxton Cemetery at Tory Hill.
